The trade in timber and agricultural commodities is among the greatest pressures on the world’s forests and other natural ecosystems.
We help companies, governments, certification schemes, and trade associations to understand how policy, regulation and certification are changing to address these pressures, and provide them with strategic and actionable advice.
Position
Led by Annie Adams, a principal consultant with over 25 years in forest risk commodities delivering more than 80 projects since 2005, 37 led through Annie Adams Consulting since 2018. We work as a small team assembled for each assignment, and as specialists within larger consortia when a prime contractor needs that expertise.
Our clients come back because the analysis is evidenced and written for the people who have to act on it. Much of our work is published by the client, as internal guidance or strategic analysis.

Strategic Analysis and Advice
We work out what forest risk commodity regulation means for an organisation and what has to change to meet it. From EUDR and timber legality to certification and corporate disclosure.
Benchmarking and Gap Assessment
We benchmark certification standards, corporate policies and sourcing practices against regulation at indicator level, showing exactly what is covered and what is not.
EUDR and Timber Regulation
We design and review due diligence systems for EUDR, EUTR and UKTR, including country and species risk assessment. We keep those systems current as the regulation and its guidance change.
Guidance, Training and Capacity Building
We write the compliance guidance that clients and trade federations use, and build training into the work so that buyers, suppliers and sourcing teams can run the system themselves.
Disclosure and Reporting
We prepare disclosure responses and the evidence behind them for companies whose disclosure is scored and published, and advise on how forest risk is managed and described.
How we work
Annie leads every assignment. Where the work needs more than one specialist, we bring in people we have worked with for years: technical leads, analysts, editors and reviewers, assembled for that contract and no larger than the work needs.
Where a larger consultancy needs a forest risk commodity specialist inside its own team, we take that role too. Currently that includes technical value chain lead to the FACT Dialogue Secretariat.

About Annie
Annie Adams is a principal consultant with over 25 years in forest risk commodities. She has led work for governments, certification schemes, trade associations, retailers and manufacturers on timber, paper and palm oil, and on meeting deforestation-free commitments and regulation.
She was Senior Technical Lead for the UK Government’s Central Point of Expertise on Timber from 2012 to 2016. She has worked as a Principal Consultant at Efeca, as a Senior Manager at The Forest Trust, and at B&Q as a Social Responsibility Manager. She founded Annie Adams Consulting in 2018.

Directed EUDR compliance guidance published by three European trade federations to their members, 2025 and 2026.
Led the benchmarking of a certification scheme’s core standard against seven international reporting frameworks, 2026.
Led the EUDR due diligence framework and retained policy support for a listed retailer, continuous since 2018, following EUTR work since 2010.
